The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Honorees from Idaho

I'd like to introduce you to the Honorees from Idaho for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  The program also chooses anywhere from 2 to 10 runners up in each state.  They are named Distinguished Finalists and receive a bronze medallion. I will be listing them as well underneath the Honorees.

I will give a short description of what the Honoree has been nominated for and then you can click on their name to find out more! 

The two state Honorees are:

Ariane Drake

Ariane is a senior.  She founded  "Hands4Uganda", a nonprofit organization, that has raised nearly $30,000 to help a school in Uganda and the students there.

Emily Kladar

Emily is a sixth grader.  She and her sister created a nonprofit charity that sells dish towels to help raise money for families of children needing heart surgery.  She has raised over $60,000 so far.

The Distinguished Finalists are:

Kyle Ashby-encouraging reading and literacy

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Honorees from Hawaii

I'd like to introduce you to the Honorees from Hawaii for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  The program also chooses anywhere from 2 to 10 runners up in each state.  They are named Distinguished Finalists and receive a bronze medallion. I will be listing them as well underneath the Honorees.

The two state Honorees are:

Jackson Button

Jackson is an eighth grader.  He co-founded a nonprofit organization with his sister that has raised nearly $1000,000 to support many projects aiding children in Africa, Mexico and the U.S.

and

Candonino Agusen

Candonino is a junior.  He helped raise over $64,000 to buy temporary housing kits for people in Japan after the earthquake last year.

I'd like to introduce you to the Honorees from Georgia for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  The program also chooses anywhere from 2 to 10 runners up in each state.  They are named Distinguished Finalists and receive a bronze medallion. I will be listing them as well underneath the Honorees.

Rashad Holmes

Rashad is in eighth grade.  He uses his "Lil Chef" cookie business to pay for other students to go on school field trips, take part in 4-H and Boys and Girls Club activities, which they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.   He also donates to the Boys and Girls Club library and other organizations.

and

Kenneth Smalls-Muldrow

Kenneth is a senior.  He speaks to student groups about diabetes and raises money for a cure.  He also volunteers as a counselor at a summer camp for children with diabetes, showing them how to eat healthy and help building their self esteem.

The Distinguished Finalists are:

Manasa Bhatta-encouraging reading and literacy

Charles Orgbon-protecting the environment

Morgan Bowen-supporting american servicemen and women

Charlotte McCauley-supporting american servicemen and women

Kathryn Engelmaier-teaching, tutoring and mentoring other young people

I'd like to introduce you to the Honorees from Florida for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  The program also chooses anywhere from 2 to 10 runners up in each state.  They are named Distinguished Finalists and receive a bronze medallion. Samantha Kerker

Samantha is a junior.  She started the "Students for the Poor" club.  The club promotes monthly service projects that help poor people.

David Barge

David is an eighth grader.  He has given more than 300 hrs last year alone to volunteering in his community with his Boy Scout troop.

The Distinguished Finalists are:

Stevie Peacock-aiding the disadvantaged 

Miles Saffran-aiding the disadvantaged

Alexander Fields-Lefkovic-assisting the disabled 

Elizabeth Tran-helping and comforting the sick

Danielle Steinberg-romoting health and safety

Melanie Wolff-promoting health and safety

Jonathan Ludmir-reaching out to senior citizens

Haley Moss-promoting tolerance or diversity

I'd like to introduce you to the Honorees from D.C. for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  The program also chooses anywhere from 2 to 10 runners up in each state.  They are named Distinguished Finalists and receive a bronze medallion. Gelatia Araia

Gelatia is in eighth grade.  She volunteers at the Sitar Arts Center mentoring other kids and helping staff members with various art projects.

Tai Schroeder

Tai is a senior.  She is a mmber of the Student Conservation Association's Conservation Leadership Corps and works to help repair and build hiking trails in national forests as well as other similar projects.

The Distinguished Finalists are:

Donae Owens-helping and comforting the sick

Dionna Stanton-spreading the spirit of volunteerism

I'd like to introduce you to the Honorees from Delaware  for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  The program also chooses anywhere from 2 to 10 runners up in each state.  They are named Distinguished Finalists and receive a bronze medallion. Emma Rider

Emma is a freshman.  She has helped provide purification systems in developing countries.  She does this by collecting used shoes that are then resold and the profits go to purchasing the purification systems.

and 

Christine McNeill

Christine is an eighth grader.  She has helped collect more than 8,000 children's books to help restock library shelves in New Orleans that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

The Distinguished Finalists are:

Jennifer Hoffstadt-supporting american servicemen and women

Emily Bollinger-teaching, tutoring, and mentoring other young people

Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation!

The Foundation donates musical instruments to under-funded music programs. 

It was inspired by the movie Mr. Holland's Opus, and in fact was started by the film's composer, Michael Kamen, in 1996.  

The foundation has 3 programs.

The Melody Program

For k-12 school music programs

The Special Projects Program

Helps after school music programs

The Michael Kamen Solo Award

Helps outstanding student musicians who cannot afford instruments
